How does Aqua Tube work?

Simply flush the toilet and watch the Aqua Tube™ disappear together with the toilet paper. Aqua Tube is biodegradable and disintegrates immediately in the drainpipe.

  • Flush the Aqua Tube and the actual toilet paper together in one flush after using the toilet.
  • After flushing, Aqua Tube™ immediately disintegrates in the drainpipe, just like toilet paper. That has even been proven by an independent laboratory, according to their test method.
  • Aqua Tube is suitable for use with any type of toilet, even if you have an older system, live in an old building, use a septic tank or have a macerator toilet.
  • As it doesn't require a separate flush, it doesn't use more water.
  • AquaTube is the only all-round tube; it can be flushed down the toilet, recycled or composted.
  • Aqua Tube only contains wood pulp from 100% certified suppliers.

Some facts about Aqua Tube and the Environment

  • AquaTube is the only all-round tube; it can be flushed down the toilet, recycled or composted.
  • Like the traditional cardboard core, Aqua Tube can naturally be recycled.  If you are already recycling, we encourage you to continue to do so with Aqua Tube.
  • Using the methodology that was developed by an external expert group, we conducted a full Lifecycle Analysis.  Results confirm that there is no difference with regard to the environmental impact of using products with Aqua Tube compared to products using a traditional cardboard core disposed of with the household rubbish.
  • Aqua Tube's flushability is proven.  However, if for whatever reason you do not want to flush Aqua Tube, please recycle rather than simply throwing it into the bin with your other household rubbish.
  • Flushing Aqua Tube doesn't require more water.  Flushing the tube is the same as flushing normal toilet paper.  Just one flush is enough so you don't use more water.
  • Aqua Tube is made with pulp from certified suppliers.  This means that the pulp used to make Aqua Tube comes from suppliers who are legally harvesting wood coming from well managed forests.  We work with a variety of certification programs such as FSC and PEFC.
  • Aqua Tube is biodegradable, which is an environmentally accepted method of disposal.

Frequently asked questions

About Aqua Tube

How do you use it?

Aqua Tube™ is so simple to use. Just throw the empty roll in the toilet instead of the rubbish bin. After using the toilet, simply flush the Aqua Tube™ together with any toilet paper. Aqua Tube™ will disappear in toilet and then disintegrate 100% of the time and never block the toilet.

Are all toilets suitable?

Yes. Aqua Tube™ can be used in any toilet - even if you have an older system, live in an old building, use a septic tank or have a macerator toilet. Aqua Tube™ can be flushed just like toilet paper.

Why doesn’t it block the toilet?

Aqua Tube™ is suitable for any toilet and can be flushed just like toilet paper. The tube disappears together with the toilet paper and is broken down completely inside the drain pipes.

Do you have to wait a minute before flushing?

No. You can flush as soon as you throw the Aqua Tube in the toilet, just like actual toilet paper. Aqua Tube will start to disintegrate with the movement of the water in the drain pipes.

Can I use the water-saver button to flush?

No. You should use full flush for Aqua Tube.

What were the test results?

The flushability of Aqua Tube was demonstrated by a series of tests conducted by an independent laboratory.  They confirm that Aqua Tube disappeared during the tests after just one flush, according to their test method.

Is it possible for the Aqua Tube to already start dissolving before you throw it away?

No, Aqua Tube needs water to dissolve. Aqua Tube will disappear entirely after just one full flush.

Can I throw any toilet roll tube in my toilet?

No, only Aqua Tube has a special tube which can be disposed of in the toilet.

Are you sure it will not block my toilet?

Aqua Tube has proven flushability. It is suitable for any toilet and can be flushed just like toilet paper. The tube disappears together with the toilet paper and is broken down completely inside the drain pipes.

Aqua Tube and the environment

Does Aqua Tube use more water?

No. Flushing the core is the same as flushing normal toilet paper. As it doesn't require a separate flush, it doesn't use more water. So you won't use any more water than normal.

Is Aqua Tube made from natural materials?

Aqua Tube is biodegradable; it is made with renewable and biodegradable materials. Aqua Tube is made with 100% wood pulp from suppliers certified for sustainable foresting

Are you encouraging consumers not to recycle?

That is not what we are doing.  If you are used to recycling you should continue doing so.  We are also encouraging consumers who prefer not to flush Aqua Tube, to recycle.  The reality is that only 50% of consumers recycle their traditional cardboard cores today.  With Aqua Tube we are offering an alternative way of disposal.  Using the methodology that was developed by an external expert group, we conducted a full LCA.  Results confirm that the impact of a product with Aqua Tube compared to a product using a traditional cardboard core is equal on the environment.

Can I still recycle Aqua Tube in the same way as ordinary tubes?

Like the traditional cardboard core, Aqua Tube can naturally be recycled.  We actually encourage those consumers who are already recycling their cores to continue to do so with Aqua Tube.  What we have done is taking the concept of the traditional core one step further by introducing Aqua Tube which can be recycled and flushed.

Is Aqua Tube biodegradable?

Yes! Aqua Tube is made from renewable and biodegradable materials. Aqua Tube's production process is unique. We have discovered a way to make paper so strong that it can be used as a tube while still rapidly decomposing when it comes into contact with water. Biodegradable means that the product will completely disintegrate and disappear once it is flushed.

Why is this a relevant innovation? The cores could already be recycled, so why is there a need for a flushable core?

Global consumer tests clearly indicated that left-behind cores and untidy bathrooms were a major nuisance and quite often even a source of dispute in households.  The consumer tests were carried out by an independent organization in the US and 13 different countries and a 'flushable-core' was the most appealing concept across a series of alternative innovations.  The reality shows that 50% of consumers don't find the traditional cardboard core practical, and actually only 50% of the cardboard cores are recycled.

So we are introducing Aqua Tube which is the only tube that can be recycled and flushed.  For those consumers who already recycle, they can continue to do so with Aqua Tube.  For those who considered the traditional cardboard core a nuisance and unpractical, we are offering an alternative way of disposal.  Using the methodology that was developed by an external expert group, we conducted a full LCA.  Results confirm that the impact of a product with Aqua Tube compared to a product using a traditional cardboard core is equal on the environment.

Doesn’t this mean that there is more sludge generated in the sewage system? Could this cause a problem for water treatment plants?

Aqua Tube is made out of the same material as bathroom tissue.  The core represents roughly 4% more weight compared to tissue and the additional amount is marginal compared to the usage of bathroom tissue.  Because Aqua Tube is comparable to bathroom tissue and is also biodegradable, it has no significant impact on water treatment plants.  We have undertaken a significant amount of analysis at a biological treatment pilot plant before launching Aqua Tube.
